About the Surrounding Area
Toronto’s BMO Field is located in the mixed-use Exhibition Place district located just west of Toronto’s downtown core, on the shore of Lake Ontario. The area was an important early portage site for Native Americans and was used extensively as a fur trading post by French settlers in 1750. After Toronto’s founding, the area was mainly reserved for military purposes until 1878 when Toronto’s Palace of Industry exposition center was moved into the area to host the 1878 Provincial Agricultural Fair. Today, the area has many historic buildings, including the Art Deco Automotive Building, the Tudor Revival Style Fire Hall & Police Station, the Beaux-Arts style Government building (that now houses a Medieval Times Restaurant) and many more. Exhibition Place holds numerous entertainment venues, such as the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the CNE Bandshell, and The Coliseum (an indoor arena for trade shows, live music concerts, and hockey games.) The site is also populated by an array of decorative and commemorative gates, fountains, and monuments, and hosts some of Toronto’s most important yearly events, including the Honda Indy Toronto, the National Air Show, and perhaps most beloved of all, the annual Canadian National Exposition.

About BMO Field
Located in Toronto’s Exhibition Place on the shorefront of Lake Ontario, BMO Field (also known as Toronto FC Stadium) is home to the Toronto FC of Major League Soccer and the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. BMO Field was purpose-built as an outdoor soccer stadium in 2007 with a capacity of around 25,000 visitors but underwent a substantial renovation and reconfiguration period between 2014 and 2016. The renovations added another level to the eastern grandstand, extended a roofing section over spectators, increased the stadium’s soccer crowd capacity to nearly 29,000, and lengthened the field to facilitate Canadian football games. BMO Field has been the host for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the FIFA U-20 Women’s Cup, the MLS Cup, and the 140th edition of the Grey Cup. The BMO Field has also hosted several special events, including a centennial outdoor hockey game celebrating the Toronto Maple Leafs, and an outdoor live concert from the English prog-rock band Genesis in 2007.
